This has been my favorite cookbook for about 20 years. It has a lot of true Texas Cooking in it. The desserts are wonderful. It was the first time I saw the recipe for Velveeta Cheese Fudge, which has become a staple here. The Buttermilk Pie is great, as are the pecan pies. For Breakfast, try a french fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich for your kids. Not everything in here is artery-hardening, but if you are extremely health conscious I would skip it. IF you get it, don't forget to try the Birdwell Casserole - great for taking to a potluck - or the Hamburger Cornpone pie.

Pike has only gotten better with time! So glad to get this. It was the first "can't put it down" that I have had in a LONG time. Read it in about two days, and I really don't have the time for tha! It was a great suspense with lots of twists I didn't see coming. I read his Young Adult when I hwas a Young Adult and now to have his Adult Mysteries not disappoint made my week!!

A very well written account of her experience as a stripper and the things that she saw in that life. While I doubt this is the experience of your average stripper, it probably made me a more accepting person for having read it.

The reviews for this one don't seem to be so positive, but I really enjoyed it--and so did the coworker I loaned it to! We both thought it was as good as her other work. She keeps you guessing until the end!

I think anyone from the South, or who has ever been transplanted here, will enjoy this. However, if you've ever been to Macon then you'll smile and roll your eyes a lot! It was an enjoyable quick read. Not all that complicated but enjoyable!

The information is good, but the reader doesn't leave it up to you to draw conclusions. She is very obviously leading you to her point of view. I didn't really think she was wrong or out of line, but I generally don't like it to be so obvious...

It is a quick easy read though and has some good information.

So, I guess good book just not all that well written.

This book was "assigned" as the first book in my book club several years ago. I read the back of the book and was not all that excited about it.

I was completely wrong. This was a fascinating story about a Biblical character I knew nothing about. It is "historical fiction," I suppose. It reads like a novel, not a Bible book. It is one I couldn't put down.

This was our first book in the club and still the one we talk about the most. It covered so many areas of our lives. It is still the book that fostered the best book club discussion.

This is on my list of top three books.

Read it. You won't be disappointed.

Emily Giffin is relatively new to the genre, but don't overlook her. Her books have all been a great, quick read. I couldn't put any of them down.

This was read by the author and he wasn't the best one for that job. He was pretty flat.

I'd read some of his earlier work and swore I woudln't read him again. Then, I got talked into reading Wicked which I LOVED! I thought that maybe he'd improved so I got this one. No, apparently Wicked was just a fluke! I finished this, but it isn't one I'd recommend.

I had read one of Maguire's earlier books, and really had to trudge through it. It was painful, but I tried to finish it for my book club.

When this one was chosen years later, I was not thrilled; however, I was pleasantly surprised. It was so much better. He has drastically improved. This was a great read, and you really forget it is fiction about a land that never did exist. In discussion, several of us would refer to the story as "back when things were...." And then we'd realize that things never were that way because it was fiction. I say that just to let you know that you totally immerse yourself in it.

If you've read Maguire before and not been impressed, give this one a try. It is refreshing.
