This book was not as good as the books in the Miss Julia series. While the plots of all the books are somewhat farfetched, Etta Mae's Worst Bad-Luck Day was even more so. I did not find this book to be as humorous as the others and Miss Julia was not portrayed very favorably.

If were possible to rate a book 0, that is what I would give this book.
If you a fan of Jane Austens Pride and Prejudice and are looking for another chance to spend time with the characters you loved so well, do NOT read Pride/Prejudice. I confess to abandoning the attempt after the first 50 pages.
I turned to the afterword to see if the author could provide any justification for her desecration of Austens characters. Herendeen says that Pride/Prejudice is the hidden story behind the one Austen shared with us. According to Herendeen, that hidden story is that all the major characters in the original Pride and Prejudice are bisexual.
Pride/Prejudice is a story of Ms. Herendeens own devising. She has borrowed the characters and the plot from Jane Austen, but the spirit of the original is sadly lacking.

This is not a comfortable, feel good book. There is a lot of information about bees, which I found very interesting. But the basic story of murder in a dysfunctional family is not original. The reviewers claims of "charming" and "downright gorgeous" escape me.

I very much liked this book. The plot is good and it is always a pleasure to read about the familiar characters. The latter is the only negative. If you have not read the previous books in this series, it would be difficult to understand much of the character motivation or interaction. It is not a stand-alone book.
