This book describes Lincoln's entire life. It provides more detail than I would have expected. Many times children are more interested in what typical daily life was like more than a timeline description of historical events. The author does include tidbits about what Lincoln's daily life was like as a child. We learn what his schooling was like and what is was like living in a log cabin.

This book illustrates the dream of a young African American child who dreams of Africa and what it might have been like for her grandparents. The pictures are in black and white and are set to a wonderful poem. The charcoal drawings have a soft, circular, fuzzy quality that feels like a dream. The pictures are well researched and reflect African culture and life. Even though the pictures are in black and white, your child will see the bright and exotic colors of Africa.

This book provides patterns for 42 different quilt squares. Both the authors recommend two different layouts of the squares to create a sampler quilt. The final quilt pictued in the book contains red, white and blue hence the Americana title. The squares are different sizes but they manage to arrange them into one quilt. For the most part, each square is described on one page. Pictures and photographs are provided to highlight the instructions. The variety of square types describe many different techniques and include many of the traditional styles.

This book shows several different ways to swadle your baby in the traditional manner as shown on the front of the book. It also shows you how to make baby slings from a scarf or long piece of fabric. You learn ways to use the fabric to make slings to carry your baby on your back, hip or front. This way you can carry one piece of fabric and use it in different ways depending on your needs at that moment.

The pictures in the book are great but as for technical information this book really lacked. I am not sure there was enough information for someone starting out. I did not get any ideas for my garden from this book. They have some brief descriptions of some plants and some ideas for garden decorations.

This would be a good book for someone starting out. There is a getting started chapter that provides pointers on quilting technique. You learn all the tricks to cut fabric correctly. They provide directions for quilt blocks (11 patterns), projects (five patterns) and have a chapter on how to finish and complete your quilt. What I like about this books is that it assumes that you are starting out and provides detailed instructions which would be helpful for a new quilter.

The Little Bill book series is an exceptional collection of books written by Bill Cosby. They center on a young boy named, Little Bill. The stories help kids understand the value of friendship and family. They encourage kids to solve problems. Each book starts with an introductory message to the parents written by a psychiatry expert. This provides an excellent tool for the parents when reading this book with your child. This book encourages kids to play versus spending too much time in front of the TV and video games. In this book kids learn it is more fun to use your imagination to create their own space alien stories. They also learn that sometimes toys marketed in commercials during their favorite cartoon shows can be a disappointment.

This is a non-religious children's book to explain the event that is Christmas. The book uses a baby, mother and father. The names Mary, Joseph and Jesus are not used. The birth is in a "ancient barn" versus a manager.

This book contains 15 projects that kids can make for the Christmas tree. The book contains designs that would appeal to kids. There are also several projects that you would be proud to put on your tree and make yourself. The directions are clear and are supplemented with pictures to help explain how to finish the project.
