Harlan Coben is a great formula writer. He comes up with the basic crime but puts twists on it that are unusual. This one gets a little complex in the middle-end but you're never bored. Just keep the facts straight and see if you can figure it out.

The novel is hard to take because you know the outcome of the Romanov family...but do you? This is the story of an innocent boy swept up in the need to help the imprisoned Romanovs who have been toppled from power and are being held by the Reds. He has an overwhelming need to serve them while at the same time attempt to help them...but all is not what it seems. You don't see the end coming.

This is a basic murder mystery with a tie to the past...the past events are intermingled with the present to fit together the pieces of the puzzle. I'm from Baton Rouge so I enjoyed it. It's set in and near Baton Rouge.

It seems like a massive book at over 900 pages, but those pages fly by without notice. Follett's writing makes you want to read more as you get engrossed in the character's lives and you want to dive in and kill William youself. This is a book you'll want to get back to after you've put it down. Can't wait to read the sequel.

This was an unexpected treat. George interweaves the past with the present in this story of a family dealing with the death of a loved one. A nice surprise!

I read Pillars first and had to have more. I finished this monster of a book in about 2 weeks...it's 1014 pages long but you don't notice the length as you're drawn in to the lives of the characters. The writing is so easy that you just keep moving on through. The characters are wonderfully drawn as is the description of life during the middle ages: the classes, the way of everyday life and the trials that the characters experience. I felt as if the characters were friends and found myself loving and hating them. This is definitely worth the time it takes!
