I could not put this book down - I even neglected school work and stayed up until nearly three in the morning finishing it. It's compulsive and I dreaded getting to the final pages, even though I feverishly wanted to know what was going to happen. The ending chapters were stunners - all this tension was building up and bound to finally topple over, but it kept perpetuating itself. It left me mad and dizzy, and absolutely in need of a sequel.

I love Dewey's story in itself--how he survived and made the people and community around him happy.
No doubt Dewey and Ms. Myron had a wonderful and indescribable relationship, and although the book was highly entertaining, I personally felt it was really repetitive and I expected more in terms of the writing and the content. Yes, Dewey obviously affected a lot of people, but I felt like every chapter revolved around the same thing--the writers would constantly go back to how Dewey was special because of how he just "knew" or how he never changed and was reliable.
I don't mean to sound critical, as I'm sure this was a hard book for Ms. Myron to write, but I was looking for more variety.
It was a wonderful book and I highly recommend it because of the "story" of Dewey. However, I feel as though the writing itself lacks the vivaciousness of Dewey himself.

There were many times that I laughed out loud while reading this book, because, as a Southerner, it's amusing to read things and understand their quirks, if only because you live that way, too. :) And I thought Riley was fecthing! Haha.
Still, as a previous poster said, I felt like the dialogue kept repeating itself - especially the parts where the mother and grandmother kept saying "Ya-shee!" or something to that effect. It was funny, and it did add to the character of the book, but after awhile I was wondering if that's all the mother knew to say at times.
It was an enjoyable read and very quick! You can start it by midday and finish it like two hours later.

As a native Texan and country girl, my reading this book started out by luck and chance, but everything happens for a reason right? :)
I loved it! I could just picture all the fuss that was made when this book was published, but oh...it does fit Texas. We are glorious when it comes to dealing with heat and cattle and oil and in truth? I'm in love with all of them even more, just by reading this book.
If you really want to read a gritty but spectacular novel about Texas and all the things that make it vivacious, I'd highly recommend "Giant."

This was a quick read that I finished in a few hours. The only reason I found out about Gloria Vanderbilt was because of her son, Anderson. (I'm young...and I missed the glory days of her jeans!) I liked the pace of the book very much, but the only thing I wish she would have done differently is to have made it more linear--it feels as though the memoir jumped around and while it was easy to fall back into place at times, it made it a little confusing for me. I also wish she would have focused on Wyatt Cooper, seeing as though she still feels he's the true "love of her life."
Overall, it was an insightful read about a woman who's still in high cotton, and I have a new appreciation for her because although she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, she obviously worked hard to make a name for herself and prove her worth.

I was nicely surprised at how much I loved this book. I fought off sleep a number of nights just to get to the next chapter...and the next, and the next!
Jodi Picoult writes so hauntingly vivid, with characters that transcend the pages time and time again.
It was worth every page of text, and has an ending that really defies and defines everything. I highly recommended it!

There were times when I appreciated the freshness of this book - the author's gritty storytelling and the realism of it. It was worth the read, but it felt like the ending was just thrown together in an attempt to quickly finish the novel. The love scenes were racy and still tasteful. While the main character sometimes got on my nerves, the cowboy in this one was a keeper. :)

I loved this book - loved, loved, loved it. Hicks really knows his stuff. Admittedly, I was hoping for a little bit more of a romance between Carrie and Zachariah, but I still understood and felt the love between the two. :)
I really wish I would have read this sooner and will not forget it anytime soon!
