Didn't read. This reader contains parts of 5 Dillard novels and additional new works. Would be an excellent introduction to her writing.

This starts out as a woman dealing with her life as "the other woman" but changes into a rememberance of her childhood when her long absent sister appears and then takes another turn when her sister's motivation finally becomes known.

Wonderfully written, almost fairy tale-like. Set in China during its Cultural Revolution, the story lets you experience another time and place.

The story shows how the investigation of a death by many different people/methods/degrees of effort and ability can result in highly varying results. The many characters, story lines and political history may become tedious but it is worth the effort for the unexpected sly humor and writing skill.

This novel, based on fact, details the lives of decendants of pre-Civil War slaves. Family pictures and copies of documents are a wonderful addition. Ms. Tademy has written an amazing family history that should be required reading.

One of the best books I've read this year. The story, two young men on a week's quest at the end of the German onslaught on Russia, seems deceptively simple, but this author makes it so much richer. St. Petersburg, the Germans, Russians, the horror of war, the arts, unexpected friendships and love ... it's all there and so well written that I was, too. I want to read more by Benioff and more about this time period, two measures of an excellent book.

This is a 2003 edition, retired library paperback but will still alert you that a small chocolate chip cookie dough Dairy Queen Blizzard has 660 calories.

Like the other "Idiot" books, this covers the subject from tip to tail and all points between.

I really enjoyed this book, the characters were very real to me and the setting was described well enough to almost become a character itself. The emotional conflicts between family members were developed and presented exceptionally well. I highly recommend this book.

Engrossing story begins in Chile and ends in California, touches on every-day life in Chile, shipping, prostitutes, the Gold Rush and Chinese herbal medicine. And, it's well written.
