I thought that this book was good. Not as good as "The Other Boleyn Girl", but worth reading nevertheless. I liked the style of this book - it's written as diaries kept by three women: Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Jane Boleyn.

The only disappointing thing about this books is the size (its only about 55 pages). It ended way to quick. I didnt get enough of the characters. I was left literally gasping for more.

Considering how this book was rated by other readers I was sure that I won't finish it or will absolutely hate it. I have to say I did not hate the book (but I didn't love it either) I enjoyed it in some parts and rolled my eyes in other parts.
I really like the subject of the book, but the execution could have been much better without endless quotes from Jane Austin's novels and with original scenes, not "borrowed" from Austin's novels.

I was about 12 years old when I had to read in school for the very first time and back then I absolutelly hated it. Now, decades after, I decided to give this book another try. Wow!!! What a masterpiece this is. Gogol's writing is simply beautiful, his humor is sarcastic, and his knowledge and understanding of "Russian soul" is something that even Tolstoi doesn't have.
Sadly, Gogol wasn't able to finish this book. One can only wonder what else did he have in mind for Chichikov and all other characters.

This is the type of crime novel where you know right from the start who did what. There is no guessing game as to who the "bad guy" is and there is no chase to the finish line where you will test your own detective abilities by trying to figure out the story before last chapter.
Robbie Robinson is a simple man. He is no longer young, completely
dominated by his wife, Isabel, works in a local bank with no chance of advancing, never does anything out of "character". Loves his garden, wild birds and really really hates his wife. For some time now Robbie fantasizes about robbing his bank (the same bank he's worked at for almost a quarter of a century) He never thinks that he will go through with it....until one day, he surprises himself by actually doing it. of course, being Robbie, he manages to create a little bit of a mess in the process.
To be honest, I couldn't stand Robbie at first. I wanted to scream" "Grow some damn balls, man". He was simply a pathetic creature and I didn't care for him a tiny bit. However, later on, after bank raid, he started to change. First of all, the way he robbed the bank was very amateurish and that by itself made me look at Robbie in a little softer way. Almost like when you see a child do something really stupid and you can't really get angry at him/her because they are just a kid and what do they know? Ahh, Robbie, Robbie, what are we going to do with you? I couldn't help myself, I sort of started rooting for him.
The ending surprised me a little at first, but I couldn't think of a better way to finish Robbie's story. In some weird sense, it was very fitting.

Timoteo, a surgeon has just found out that his daughter, Angela, was in an accident and she is in the same hospital where he works. She is in surgery. Noone knows if she will make it. As Timoteo waiting outside the OR, he begins to talk to Angela. He tells her about an affair he had 15 years ago, before Angela was born. He name was Italia and even though he was somewhat disgusted by her, he became obsessed with her. Timoteo purges himself, he doesn't hide anything. You love him on one page, you hate him on the next and yet, you can't help but feel his pain, his confussion. Timoteo is looking back at what he did 15 years ago and he is trying to figure out if he deserves to have Angela alive and well.
One the main theme of this book is rain. It's everywhere. On the day Angela was in an accident, on the day Timoteo spots Italia again after not seeing her for a while, and so on...It is almost like Timoteo is trying to wash himself off. He is trying to become clean hoping that it will save Angela's life...

I gave all I could to finish this book. The story itself is intriguing, but the execution is bad. There are way too many better books waiting to be read to waste any more of my time trying to finish this one.

In the second half of 1700s England was faced with a dilemma: What to do with their convicts. American continent was no longer available for it due to the American Revolution. So, England started looking for a new route. England started sending their convicts to Australia. This is a story of the very First Fleet to arrive. At the heart of the story is Mary Bryant, who was convicted for a highway robbery and sentenced for a transportation to Australia. Carolly Erickson does a great job describing the awful conditions on those prison transport ships, as well as the horrors that were facing the prisoners and mariners once they landed in Australia. Almost instantly it became clear that they were not prepared for a life in a new place: their crops refused to take and grow, the land was not as furtile as it was believed, relations with aborigines people weren't always friendly, the food was running out fast, and no help from the outside world was in sight. Facing a certain death from many deceases or from the famine, several convicts, including Mary, her husband, and her two children, decided on a dire escape. Against all odds they made a journey of over 3600 miles and landed in a Dutch colony. Unfortunatelly, the truth about them was soon out in the open and, once again Mary and the rest of the convicts were arrested and transfered to England for yet another trial. What will happen to Mary now?
This is an excellent story. Clearly it was well researched, however I found Carolly Erickson's writing a little mediocre.

I am somewhat surprised that I really liked this book. At first it seemed like a typical chick-lit: a girl crying over her ex-boyfriend and so forth. Towards the end, however, the book took a sudden turn and became an almost a self-help guide on how to re-discover the little things that makes us happy. The whole "you can't change the things that affect your life, you can only change how you react to them" would be something that you'd hear in a therapy session, but presented in this book, in its format, felt more like it was said to you by a very close friend.

Recently this books has become very controversial. At first, when it was just published, it was advertised as a true story. Later, after this book became a bestseller, the evidence was brought that the author fabricated her story. Despite the fact that Dalia may have never existed, there are some evidence of honor killings in Jordan.
I really enjoyed this book. Take it as fiction (with some truth to it).

This book is written in a form of diary by Toundi, a Cameroon houseboy. Toundi studies the world of his masters, and the result is a sad, and sometimes amuzing account of his life.

This book is hilarious!!! I absolutely loved the author's sense of humor, his perspective, and his sarcasm. This is the type of book that needs to be read with a pen and a notebook, because there are so many simply priceless quotes that I would want to have handy.
Two highlights of the book: the conversation between intestine and brain about farting problems in church and the manual on how to change toilet paper. :)
