This is a general tour guide of the Bahamas, places to stay, where to go, dive sites, sailing, hiking, biking, tourist info, etc. and some general lore about the islands. Published 1996. Somewhat out of date now, but general info always valuable.

I found the writing style a bit overdone, too descriptive, and it caused my interest to wane. The story is probably a good one, but I couldn't get past the sometimes elaborate verbiage.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I usually like Anita Shreve's books, and was a little disappointed in the beginning when it seemed a very predictable sort of story. However, the twists and turns came along and I ended up feeling it was up to Shreve's usual high standards.

Thoroughly enjoyed this chatty book! Kuralt goes on a 12-month tour of America, staying in a different region each month. He describes the people, local culture and surroundings of each in a most engaging, personal manner.

This is an amazing tale, graphic and sad, but speaks in a true voice of the hardships pioneers of the period suffered. I found some of the weather information sections a bit too lengthy and detailed for my taste, but certainly some scientific explanations were necessary to understand the inconceivably powerful forces at work the day of the blizzard. The author did extensive research in both factual and oral histories. Most of the book does read as a novel, and proves the point that a true story can be even more riveting than fiction! All in all, a great read for anyone interested in history and our westward expansion.

Traces careers of several doctors from medical school through mature careers. I found it had a somewhat slow start, but ended up thoroughly enjoying it.

The plot is very uncomplicated (perhaps even sappy) and predictable. However, I did enjoy the very graphic descriptions of the wagon train during its trek across the plains. Those were quite good, I thought.

This is a wonderful book! So many layers! The characterizations are so carefully drawn, and so human. Frailties are exposed, yet in ways that are so understandable from different points of view. This book will be around and enjoyed for a long time.
