Even if you haven't read the first 8 books in this series, this one itself is astoundingly worth your time. It's very well written, and gripping.

I was stunned to find this "introduction to Buddhism" actually spoke very little about Buddhism as most of us understand it. It does not mention the 8-fold path. It does not mention the standard ideas that I thought were common to all Buddhists regardless of their own particular path. I cannot recommend it to anyone.

Joan Smith can be hit or miss. She's very prolific, and I'm happy to say this is a definite hit. Well written, witty, funny, and even with some subtleties that make it worth a second read. This could well become one of my favorites.
