Book 10 in Robyn Carr's Virgin River series, Angel's Peak continues the saga. The series is one of my favorites, and every book in the series introduces the reader to compelling storylines, characters you'd love to meet, and intriguing writing. Carr is one of those authors whose books I read the day they are released.

You should read the series in order, however. Virgin River is on Netfix currently, but be aware that even though several of the characters are the same as the books, the plot lines are different. The books are much better.

Angel's Peak centers on Franci Duncan and Sean Riordan, a couple torn apart four years earlier, with a bitter break-up, and now given a second chance. But obstacles and secrets abound. No spoilers here....read and enjoy! 5 stars for all books in the VR series.

Second book in a fun series. First time reading this author with this series, and I'd read more from her.

Good Girls Don't is the first in the trilogy, and Real Men Will is the third.

Alyssa Day is a favorite author. Always a fun read with her.

You get vampires, motorcycles, bad boys that really aren't so bad, great characters, a couple of interesting storylines, paranormal fun, and lots of humor.

She didn't disappoint again. This is the first in a 3-book series.

Bared to You is the first book in the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day. Well-written, interesting characters and plot. Series kept me reading and waiting impatiently for the next book. This is probably considered erotica, and the sex scenes are HOT...and a plus, well-written. Some authors don't know how to write a good sex scene, and Day has it down pat. But if graphic sex is not for you, then you'll want to pass on this series. Apart from that, the characters keep you wondering what's going to happen next, with plenty of intrigue.

Helpful Score: 1

The Best of Us is book 4 in Carr's Sullivan's Crossing series, set in the Colorado Rockies wilderness.

A great cast of characters, the storylines are backset by Carr's awesome description of the scenic mountains surrounding the wilderness campground, which sets the stage for every story in this series.

Read in order, however, and "What We Find" is the first in the series. What could be better? Majestic mountains, quirky characters, and writing that makes you wish you were there.

Highly recommend

A Blizzard of Polar Bears (Alex Carter, Bk 2)

"A Blizzard of Polar Bears" is a blizzard of thrills and intrigue. The author has done it again with this second book in her newer series featuring Alex Carter, a wildlife biologist hell-bent on saving whatever endangered species she's assigned. Nothing seems to stop her, and fans of C.J. Box or Nevada Barr will enjoy this series.

In this book, it's the wild of the Canadian Arctic, a cold and brutal reality to fight for survival, let alone the poachers and those out to kill Alex for her interference in their hunt for polar bears.

The author is a wildlife biologist herself, and I really enjoy that the reader actually learns how the animals are tracked, and all the angst a wildlife biologist can go through. Of course in the books, there's added mystery and thrills, and it's a wild ride. But it really tears your heart out at what the polar bears are facing. Alex does her best, but is thwarted time and time again, facing up against those who would rather kill her than let her succeed in her efforts.

What I really liked about this series also, is at the end of each book, the author talks about the endangered species of the book, the reality of their survival currently, and what those of us who care can do to help. Plus actually tells exactly what can be done and how.

If you are in a book club, I'd highly recommend this series for discussion. There are 3 books in the series so far, and I hope more to come.

Book on which the movie is based, and a heartfelt story about finding your soulmate just a little too late in life. At the time of your life when you understand not everything can be about you.

Very moving and sentimental, at times will make you laugh, and other times have the kleenex ready.

Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood portrayed the main characters of the book in the movie.

Wonderful story.

I hadn't read this author before, but was looking for something light and fun at the time. And it was. Light and airy, at times humorous, and other times, you just wanted to get through to the next book in the series.

Fanciful, and not for those who like dark and mysterious.

The Choice (Dragon Heart Legacy, Bk 3)

Review Date: 3/12/2023

Nora Roberts is my favorite author, hands down. The Choice is the third book in her latest fantasy trilogy, and although not my favorite of her trilogies, it had the importance of family...whether blood or not; love, romance, and of course evil and hope.
The Choice is the third book in the trilogy, wrapping up the saga of Breen and Keegan, and their blending of two totally different worlds, with all the slaying of evil and creating life long friendships, family.
Read the trilogy in order, or you'll be lost. The Awakening, The Becoming, and then The Choice.

This is book 11 in the great Joe Pickett series by C.J. Box. Pickett is a game warden in Wyoming, and gets into a lot of pickles.
I recommend reading this series from the beginning, as Pickett's family is very young at the beginning, and with each book, kid's grow up, character relationships grow, but in every book is a great story plot, and great writing.
I highly recommend this series for both men and women. I'm always looking forward to the next in the series.
The first book in the series is Open Season, for those who would like to start.

Confessions of an Innocent Man: A Novel

Review Date: 8/15/2023

I promised myself to read other authors this year, rather than just my favorites.
David R. Dow was an author I'd never heard of, and I decided to read this book after reading a review of another PBS member.
It was mind-boggling and eye-opening. A heart-breaking story, even though supposed fiction. Suspenseful, and also frustrating. Makes you wonder how many are unjustly accused, and how other perpetrators get away with crime and are never caught.
The author has delivered a well-written story involving capital punishment, with thought-provoking chapters that keep the intrigue and injustice on going.
If you just want entertainment, then this book is not for you. It's a devastating read, but you will stay interested in turning the page.

Dead after Dark: Shadow of the Moon / The Story of Son / Beyond the Night / Midnight Kiss Goodbye
Review Date: 2/11/2023

For those of you who are Black Dagger Brotherhood fans, "The Story of Son" by J.R. Ward is NOT part of the BDB series, but it is set in the BDB world. Totally separate from the Brothers, however.

Good story, but is you are looking for BDB characters, you will be disappointed.

The book features short stories by other authors as well, in the paranormal genre.

Book 2 in the Longmire series. Craig Johnson is one of my favorite authors. Great characters, plots, and a writer who knows how to make you want to keep turning the page. Added to that is always a bit of warmth and humor, besides intriguing mystery.

Walt Longmire is a sheriff in Absaroka county in Wyoming. This novel features the Basque, which are very interesting to learn about.

5 Stars for the whole series. Longmire on Netflix is based on this book series, but the books are a bit different with some of the characters, etc. A great read.

The Drifter (Peter Ash, Bk 1)
Author: Nick Petrie
Book Type: Paperback
  • Currently 4.2/5 Stars.

Review Date: 2/21/2023

Nick Petrie is one of my favorite new authors. The Drifter is his debut novel featuring war veteran Peter Ash in a series that will keep you wanting more, and waiting for the next in the series.
Ash deals with his "white static," a post-traumatic stress which he endures, and which forces him to roam nature, sleeping out of doors, and leading a nomadic existence that ultimately leads him into events over which he has limited control.
In spite of his aversion to crowds, he is pulled into helping others, and finds a passion with a new purpose.

The series is up to book 7, and read in order. It's a fantastic ride, and you'll be cheering Ash on.

J.D. Robb's #56 in the In Death series doesn't disappoint, as always. The continuing saga of Eve and Roark's world is my favorite crime thriller series.

Robb has a way with characters, plot developments, and "Encore In Death" is the latest in this fantastic series.

After reading each novel (Robb puts out 2 per year in this series) I then read a second time, but with the audio in background. Jim Frangione narrates, and does a fantastic voice read. He truly brings the characters alive.

If you are new to the series, start with book one, "Naked In Death," and read the series in order.

And enjoy the wild ride. You'll be grabbing the next book in the series, and ignoring all other reads.

Alex Carter is at it again in the third book of the wildlife biologist doing her best to save endangered species.

This time the Selkirk mountains of North-Eastern Washington State is the setting for this fast-moving thriller with townspeople at odds with loggers, activists, and enough angst to keep things moving at a fast pace.

Hired by the Land Trust for Wildlife Conservation to locate a mountain caribou that has possibly wandered in old growth forest (that a logging company wants cut down), Alex is thrust into desperately wanting to save this supposedly extinct animal, and stumbling on a murder in the wild. Which puts her once again alone with a target on her back, and all the thrills and chills.

Killing Crazy Horse: The Merciless Indian Wars in America (Bill O'Reilly's Killing Series)
Review Date: 2/21/2023

I love Bill O'Reilly's Killing Series. His writing is never boring, and what I really respect is that he is factual. He doesn't beat around the bush, and in this book (like his others in the series) you learn much more than what you ever were told in any history class. And, you're told the true historical facts, not a made up version. Plus, you are given all the data to do your own due diligence if you don't believe what you read.

As always, this book was enthralling. O'Reilly also narrates these books if you are an audio fan.

I was a fan from the first book on, Killing Lincoln. This book, Killing Crazy Horse will open your eyes to a lot of history you were probably not aware of. And make you mad, pull your heartstrings, and wish you could change history. We can't...but we can learn from it.

Highly recommend this book, and any book in the Killing Series.

Leopard's Scar (Leopard, Bk 14)
Leopard's Scar (Leopard, Bk 14)

Review Date: 2/21/2023

Christine Feehan's Leopard series is one of my favorites, and with Leopard's Scar, she nails it again.

Leopard shifters, several storylines intertwined and great characters. As always, the sex scenes are hot, and Feehan is still the queen of paranormal.

I suggest if you are new to the series, to start from the beginning and read in order, as characters from past books show up in this one. The author is a master at entwining characters from previous books into the plots of her current writing.

Great read.

I've not read Linwood Barclay before, but the plot of this book sounded too intriguing to ignore, so decided to try reading a new author.
I couldn't put the book down, and am looking forward to reading his other books.
Great plot, (witness protection program) interesting characters, and fantastic writing.
That's all I'll say, as it's a great read for anyone, and no spoilers here.
Stand alone book.5 stars
