This book is not worth the long wait. I bought it because I got tired of waiting and was very disappointed. I didn't finish it. If you want to read an egotistical, self-acclaimed expert's wild theories of the meaning of things in Jo Rowling's Harry Potter series, this is the book for you. He guesses at what Ms. Rowling meant and practically slathers over her, but that's it, just guesses and sycophantic drooling. It was uncomfortable to read. Period. If you are a fan, you have already figured out everything he says. [Can you give a book no stars?]

The "romance" in this book, between a witch and a vampire, seems like a teenage girl's dream--like Twilight. The appealing part of the story was the history fictionalized?). I struggled through the first slow, dense 2/3 of the book waiting for it to get better. The final third caught and held my interest enough to make the entire 579 pages worth it.
