Help Center - If you get a request in email, but can't find it in your account...

Search Terms:

If you got an email notification of a request to your bookshelf, but you cannot find the request on your account page in order to respond to it or print the address, this means that either: the requestor canceled the request; the system canceled the request; you canceled the request; or you are not looking on the correct tab in My Account.

To find this request:

First, look in your active transactions:

  • Click My Account in the toolbar at the top of the site.

  • Look at the Requested From Me tab, the Books to mail tab, the Books I've Mailed and the Wish List Holds tabs there.  *Scroll down if necessary to see these tabs*.
  • Click each tab to see the transactions there.  *Scroll down if necessary to see all of the transactions on a tab*.

If you do not find the book request on the Books I've Mailed, Requested From Me or Books to Mail tabs, then look on the Wish List Holds tab.

  • If there is a Pending Wish List offer for this book on the Wish List Holds tab, this means that the book was initially requested by a Wishing member (perhaps the item was set to auto-request), but then the Wishing member canceled before you responded.

    • You do not get an email when this cancellation happens
    • Instead, the book is offered to the next wishing member, and you see a new Pending Wish List offer on your account page.
    • This new Wisher has 48 hours to accept this offer; when he or she does, you will get another email.

If there is not a pending Wish List Hold for this book on the Wish List Holds tab, then the request is no longer active.  Read on for the possible explanations of what happened.

  • If the requestor canceled:
    • There will be an email in your inbox notifying you of the cancellation.
    • Again, you will not have an email if this was a Wish List book that was requested and then canceled.
      • Instead you will see a new Pending Wish List offer on your account page.
    • There will be a canceled transaction for the book in your Transaction Archive if you mouse over the icon with the X on the left of the Transaction archive, a box saying "Canceled by requestor" will pop up
  • If you canceled by mistake:
    • There will be a canceled transaction for the book in your Transaction Archive; if you mouse over the icon with the X on the left of the Transaction archive, a box saying "Canceled by sender" will pop up
    • You are not sent an email for a cancellation you performed yourself.
  • If the system canceled:
    • This is because the book request was not responded to within 5 days or because the book was not marked mailed before the deadline
    • There will be an email in your inbox notifying you of the cancellation.
    • There will be a canceled transaction for the book in your Transaction Archive if you mouse over the icon with the X on the left of the Transaction archive, a box saying "No response from sender" will pop up.
