Annie Trevelyan is upset to learn that her father has enrolled her in finishing school. Annie dreams of becoming an actress. She's not about to let that dream go. When family friend Colin McBride agrees to accompany Annie west to start her schooling, Annie comes up with a plan. She'll go on the trip, but she isn't planning on staying in school.
This is the second story in McKade's Mail-Order Brides series. I enjoyed the first book which was about Annie's parents, but this one wasn't very good. Colin was likeable, but Annie was a spoiled brat. I have no idea what he saw in her. She was constantly doing dumb things that would drive me absolutely crazy. I don't know how Colin could put up with her for long.
This book did have several interesting supporting characters. My favorite was an 9-year-old orphan named Toby who was traveling with the theater group. His best friend was a slow-witted adult who didn't speak. These two constantly looked out for each other. I liked how Colin offered them a home at his ranch. My rating: 2.5 Stars.
