For thirteen long days, three river rafting guides, JT, Abo and Dixie, navigate twelve passengers through the rapids of the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. After a couple days of early mornings and long days the excitement of the trip wares off, it becomes more of chore, tempers flare and they begin second guessing each others decisions. One of the passengers named Amy is 17 and keeps a diary and it is included here and there throughout the book. Amy calls herself "Fat Girl" and is taking the trip with her Mother, a Mother that at times she just can't stand and wishes she would just disappear. Along the way they take on another very unexpected passenger, adding to the already stressed mismatched passengers.
Very interesting story with a few surprises. No over the top drama but enough to keep the scenes real like with any dysfunctional family/friends. Very adult subjects and language so if you are easily offended you might want to stay clear of this one. The ending will leave you speechless, it did me.
