It seems as if there are many people on PBS who feel they wasted their time with this book. I couldn't disagree more. While it's not one of my "favorite all time" books I really enjoyed it and think it's very worthwhile reading. Beyond just being a good story and comic novel the book has real substance to it. It will get you thinking about religion, history and theology. Most of all by the end of the book you will think about the individual characters and their responses to pain. The book is well put together and inspires thought about the human condition. One thing to be prepared for is that while the book isn't graphic there are many references to sex in a comical way.
