This novel is a great summer escape! It's a mix of women's fiction, family drama, mystery, and thriller. Like The Safe Place I read earlier this month, The Vacation is set in France on a lush private estate. However, this is a very different story: four friends from uni plan a week-long reunion 20 years after graduation and bring their spouses and children. Sounds lovely, right? Of course, all does not go as planned.
I enjoyed the descriptions of the French locales and delicious food, and could picture the made-for-streaming miniseries in my mind. The large (12) cast of characters makes it challenging to know any of them well, but each had their own personality. Nearly every person has a secret, and during their week together, they are revealed - some I anticipated, others I did not.
Thank you to St. Martins Press for the gifted ARC.
