This is a very frightening tale of life in these United States. This is a true story of the author growing up in an extrememly dysfunctional family, despite both her parents having college degrees. The homelessness, the squalor, the abuse, the way they were treated as outcasts, and the fact the children weren't removed from the home by any agency during their entire lives does not say much for the syatem. She has apparently overcome everything she lived through despite still running into her mother dumpster diving. It really opened my eyes!
