I read THE DRESSMAKER for the January 2015 pick in my online book club, The Reading Cove.
★ We also had the author as a guest on January's episode of our podcast, which was fun! ★
While I didn't find the overall writing style super engaging, I did enjoy the fresh perspective on the 1912 Titanic disaster. Having never heard anything about the Senate hearings and journalism of the time, those aspects of The Dressmaker made it pretty riveting at times!
I also liked that Tess' character was somewhat based on the author's own mother, and that the designer Tess worked for, Lady Lucile Duff-Gordon, had been a real passenger onboard.
Overall, I enjoyed this story and look forward to more from Kate Alcott. I give it a B-.
