The 20th or so in the Posadas County mystery series. Sheriff Bobby Torrez is out hunting when someone takes a shot at him. Deputy Estelle Guzman is alarmed when her 90-yr old mother gets a call asking for money to ensure the safety of Guzman's son, a young musician prodigy touring in Mazatlan. (The book description would lead you to believe it's all about Francisco's concert, but he's really not in this story except for a few phone calls.) Retired sheriff Bill Gastner needs rescuing after a fall breaks his hip and Guzman tries to assist her old mentor while worried about what is going on in Mexico. Then someone she's never heard of, who claims to be her uncle, becomes a sinister threat. I always like these books and this one is no exception, although it's not the best for someone new to the series. I really like that Havill has set up an ongoing threat to the tiny town as a direct result of the highly anticipated observatory/theme park construction, should provide more interest for future stories. Good characters, good dialog, excellent sense of place.
