Training a dragon to fight is the only way for fifteen-year-old Jakkin Stewart to escape. As a bond servant in Master Sarkkhan's dragon barns on Austar IV, he must earn money in the gaming pits if he is to buy his freedom.
But, Jakkin has no dragon of his own to train. He can get one only be stealing a new hatchling and training it secretly in a hidden desert. If Heart's Blood, the young dragon, can win in the pits, Jakkin can buy his freedom and win the love of the mysterious girl, Akki. But whit if Heart's Blood loses? Will Jakkin's hopes for his future be lost forever?
