I did not like Helen, and this book will be traded shortly. But Sebold did keep me reading until the last page and thinking about the characters even after I closed the cover. For that reason, I'd say this was a successful novel. Sebold is, in my opinion, a fantastic author who is not afraid to write about the grittier side of life. We live in a world of chaos where bad things happen to good people, and she brings that realism into her novels. This book has only a 2.5 stars rating on Amazon and on PBS, but I'm giving it a 3.5. If you like books that make you think and examine life, then this is a recommended read for you.
