New Moon picks up the tale of Edward and Bella's rocky love story. Without giving too many spoilers, this is a much darker book than Twilight. A surprising plot turn in the early chapters of the book results in hundreds of pages of broody teenage angst. As a grown up... that part was a little tiring.
However, this book sees more development of the Jacob-Bella relationship, brings about a new paranormal angle to the series and lays the groundwork for the series main Big Bad and the conflicts to come.
It's not my favorite of the series, but it does have some of my favorite moments. And frankly, you have to read it to get to Eclipse (book three) which IS my favorite of Meyer's quartet of novels. [close]
