Because I'd read something by each of these authors, I had certain expectations about this compilation. I'd already read Patricia Potter's offering because she is one of my all-time favorite authors and I've read just about everything she's printed. I also like Heather Graham Pozzessere's work. Frankly, I had less hope for Joan Johnston's story; I've never been fond of her work. However, each of the stories was good.

Lonesome Rider (Heather Graham Pozzessere) Half-breed Blade McKenna encounters a lovely woman, Mrs. Dylan, traveling to take possession of her husband's farm. However, she needs help and tries to hire Blade.

Against the Wind (Patricia Potter) Just after the Civil War, Dr. Seth Hampton is trying to join a wagon train traveling to California. However, no one wants a Rebel doctor as part of the train. The only family in need of a man is Kate MacAllister. She is accompanied by eleven-year-old Nick and Jeremy, who fought in the Civil War in the Northern Army. They do not want a Southerner in their wagon. However, Jeremy is not well and the MacAllister's are traveling to the coast to get better weather and climate for Jeremy.

The wagon master says the MacAllister's have to have another man with them or not go. They don't have money to spend the winter in Independence and still be able to go next spring. Reluctantly, Kate allows Seth to join their wagon.

One Simple Wish (Joan Johnston) Alyssa Moreland, escaping with her daughter from a Pennsylvania brothel, has one wish -- to let her child have a natural life. To that end, Alyssa traveled to Fredericksburg, Texas, to start a new life as the owner of a seamstress shop.
