I have enjoyed some of Laura Childs' other cozy mystery series, but I have to say, I was underwhelmed by this one - the first book in the series left me disappointed and I hoped the second would round out the characters, setting, and relationships more. If anything, the people and events were more cardboard than before and the motivation of the characters remains a mystery. Sadly, the book was a struggle to read and almost farcical in its use of trite cliches. I finished the book with an inordinate sense of irritation and the (recurring, even days after completion) desire to shake some sense into the whole cast of characters.
