The book is part of a series, but so far every book I read in the series is a stand alone book, which can be read out of order or by it self and make sense.
The story was sweet and the stronger part of the book, (which is rather odd in a "smut book")... I would say that; it is a decent sci-fi/Romance book. And even though some of the 'blood-everywhere' scenes were not my thing, it added a definite feeling to the story, without overwhelming it, and turning it into a third-rate-horror-book. The story was well thought through, and masterfully presented to the reader, even if a bit predictable...
The characters were very well fleshed out, strong, fragile, and funny. They were likable and their interaction had a definite chemistry: love, regret, and really umm a really pissed off heroine when she was ... no, no spillers here, lol... The supporting characters were strong, and standing out, as if waiting to have their story told in the future books, some of which actually do. The villain was a bit cookie-cut, but still nicely fleshed out to make me cheer when he got his but kicked, by the victim/heroine non the less.
The intimate scenes, were just... well somewhat skippable. The first one (MF) took almost 1/3 of the book (60 pg!), I skipped most of it... It just got too long and repetitive. The others (MFM) were definitely better. There were also (MM & MMF) scenes which are not my cup of tea, so fair warning is given...
Over all this book was a first rate sci-fi/romance stand alone story. As a smut book, it was OK, some good scenes, some a bit outside of my comfort zone...
PS:
I would like to leave a note for the author though. I'm all for exotic settings, but please do your research before you start writing about a city (Prague) and a country (Czech Republic) you have never visited and don't know much about. I do not say this to be mean (I did say I liked the story) but almost all the given details are either vague, wrong and in some instances just laughable:
For example:
The international train station in Prague only has street parking, and saying that the guy had his car parked there is just not realistic (who would be going to stuff the meter every hour? And even though the city is very safe, a Jaguar parked in the heart of the Russian mafia operations? I mean c'mon, even a lesser car would be half way to Russia in less then 20 min... And no matter how aggressive the drivers are, the street/road signs ARE obeyed by motorists, since the police gives hefty tickets even by US standards...
I can go on but I think my point is made. I know so much about Prague, because I'm an immigrant from Czech and know Prague quite well, as well as other European cities and so does every other immigrant coming from over there. It is exciting to see a story placed in your old country, but deflating to see your country maimed at the same time.
