Too much torture, not enough payoff.

I skimmed the first few chapters, finding them uninteresting - I'm reading erotica for a reason after all - but the book really picked up after Garid and Etrin meet. It was fascinating reading to see the many tools used to strip Etrin of her humanity and have her submit every part of her will and power to Garid.

I was surprised at how compelling it was to read (the parts about their relationship anyway, I couldn't have cared less about the forays into Garid's professional life). And there's no doubt it's well-written, but still after a while I merely felt sorry for Etrin because some part of me wanted Garid to see her worthy, yet he wouldn't. And he wouldn't. And he wouldn't some more. Until the whole book became a tease. Give me the payoff. Give her the O. Put us both out of our misery.
