I usually gravitate to hard core thrillers (Connelly, Child, Baldacci, Coben, etc), so this book was a real change. More "soft core", if you will. It involves a mysterious death, an investigation, and a surprisingly in-depth story of a town and its people trying to make sense of it all. The character development alone sets it apart from traditional mystery/thriller story. It's not the mystery itself that is the "star" of the story; rather it's the colorful lives of the people who live in the town of Three Pines.
