Since I live in South Carolina, I wanted to hear what it used to be like when it was "wild". Along with botanical info on the swamps and lagoons, and the fish and fauna life, Bartram tells us all about how he got about and some of the adventures he had in travelling through George, Florida and the Carolinas. Pretty good reading all round. I was interested to hear that this book was held in high regard by Coleridge, Wordsworth, Carlyle and Emerson. In fact it served as some of the inspiration for "Kubla Khan" and the "Ancient Mariner". Wow. It also includes lots of descriptions of the life of Cherokee, Seminole and Creek Indians at that time.
