Abby and John Reynolds are the picture perfect couple with three kids. John's career as a high school football coach puts them in the spotlight and it seems everyone knows their marriage is in trouble. Everyone but their kids. Twenty years into their marriage, they've hit no man's land where the love has faded and trust seems to be forgotten. They are living separate lives. As they prepare to tell their children that they will be divorcing, their daughter and her boyfriend announce their engagement. And the engaged couple can't help but gush over how they hope their marriage is as good as Abby's and John's. In the desire to support their daughter and future son-in-law, Abby and John decide they must wait until after the wedding to announce they will be divorcing. What unfolds is the story of two people examining what has gone wrong in their marriage, and reflecting on how far away from God and their faith they have both grown.

I found it a captivating read that anyone who's at least this far into their marriage can probably relate to. Because of the faith that is ingrained in them both, that faith (and scripture planted in their minds) is returned to over and over again as their reflections take them deep into their past, present, and into wondering about their futures - separate from each other. This is my first Karen Kingsbury book and I am impressed. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.
