Brooke is a lawyer at an up and coming restaurant company expending into sports/entertainment catering at arenas. Cade is a US attorney specializing in the takedown of corrupt politicians. They meet when he needs a favor; the FBI needs to bug a table at one of her company's restaurants to catch a corrupt IL state senator.
Both Brooke and Cade are accomplished and excel at their jobs. Each has issues; Brooke has been through multiple break-ups because she is too busy at work and Cade d/t issues with being abandoned by his father. I liked the growth each had throughout the book as each made steps to change what wasn't working in their lives. Brooke doesn't give up her job. I liked that this showed a strong friendship between and woman and man (Brooke and her BFF Ford) without them having to have had sex and/or a relationship.
Characters from past books make appearances, but don't effect the plot.
