I found this book rather tedious and repetitive. There is a great war coming to the Fey and Rain and Ellysetta spent half the book traveling to surrounding villages speaking to the Kings and Lords on battle plans, strategies and troop movement...ad nauseum. I really liked Rain and Ellysetta in previous books but found both of them rather irritating and annoying in this one. Rain was particularly overbearing, overprotective and controlling of Ellysetta. He actually had several temper tantrums because she put herself in danger...umm hello, they are in the middle of a war. And Ellysetta's self doubts over her powers and purpose were getting on my nerves.
I really liked the first three books in the series and was looking forward to the continuing adventures but I was most disappointed in this effort. I felt that this book was mostly fluff almost as if the author had a contract for five books and stretched the series to make it work. This book didn't really advance the plot and seemed pointless. I own the final book in the series so I will definitely read it but I hope it's more lively than this one turned out to be.
