Spong does half the job here -- explaining why Fundamentalist insistence on accepting every word of the Bible as literal, God-written truth must inevitably cause thinking people to turn away from belief in the text. But he falters by not being able to come up with a strong justification to believe in the divinity of Jesus or to accept the core teachings.
