I really enjoyed FADE. While I'm not a huge fan of the way McMann writes (the style is kind of awkward, slipping back and forth with no clear narrator), the plot idea is excellent. (As you would know if you've already read WAKE)
McMann develops Janie and Cabel's relationship, and both characters grow a great deal. They are both the by-products of abuse or neglect and as predicted Cabe's past and Janie's future loom over them.
In the 2nd book of the trilogy (GONE is the 3rd and final of this series coming out in spring 2010) Janie learns and develops her "dream-catching" powers while investigating a potential high school sex scandal. Of course, with every "gift" there are sacrifices, and in this book we get an ultimate idea of Janie's future.
