THE BURNING by JANE CASEY
This is the first in a series starring Maeve Kerrigan, DC and the only female on the team that is investigating. There's a serial killer running amok, raping, killing, and setting young females on fire. So far the body count is up to 4 when Maeve gets a call in the middle of the night announcing body # 5 has been found.
There's something just a little off about the latest victim and Maeve is given permission to investigate this one as a copy-cat killing.
The story is told from different perspectives .. .the team, the victim's best friend, the ex-boyfriend. The characters are well flushed-out. These people could be your next door neighbors.
It's a race to catch the so-called Burning Man and the copy cat before any other bodies show up. It's a terrific police procedural and every page reveals one more clue ... or one more doubt.
I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I give it 5 stars and highly recommend this book!
