Good read. Action oriented futuristic/science fiction romance. [Call it SF lite, maybe?:] I liked the setup - trying to turn people who have been enemies for a 1000 years into allies - or at least peaceful cohabitors. Some want the Alliance to succeed, others want the war to return. Three cultures on a collision course...
The hero and heroine were good characters. The hero is interesting and charming and he's also tired to death of war. He sees in the Alliance his chance to 'make good', both for himself and his Drakken crew. The heroine is the highest-ranking serving officer in the fleet - a legend who has lived for war, eager to wipe out the vile Drakken. She is put in charge of the Unity - the first of the Alliance warships - staffed with members from all the Alliance races. The Drakken hero is assigned as her second in command. Though trying to be fair, she keeps expecting the hero to live down to her expectations of all Drakken. A tough enough relationship by itself, it is further complicated by lust, love, past pain and the plans of fanatics.
This is book 1 of the Tales of the Borderland and follows the Otherworldly Men series. You can read Moonstruck without reading them, the necessary background information is included in this book.
