They call this book magical realism! I'm not quite sure what that is. To me if it's magic it's not real.
I hate swamps. I have visuals of snakes, leeches, slugs and bugs of all kinds lurking to get you! When I read that this book is all about a swamp, I didn't want to read it. That is until I realized John Hart was the writer of one of my favorite books, Redemption Road. So against my better judgement I started reading The Hush. My eyes were glued to the pages from the start and I found Johnny and Jack irresistible.
If I didn't know better, I was reading a Stephen King nightmarish story. This book was creepy, blood-curdling and ghostly. All the stuff that gives me palpitations and anxiety.
However, I loved the book, read it in a day in between daily activities. As for the ending, I just wish Johnny would have chosen a different path.
Terrific read!
