This for me was a surprisingly good book. I had heard viewpoints from both sides of the spectrum but it was Kat's updates and review here that convinced me to give the book a try.

The narration is what sold it for me at first, I loved how Greg was 'talking' directly to us and the chapter titles he 'picked' were hilarious at times.

Earl took longer for me to warm up too, which fits well with his character I suppose. After he met Rachel, he became more 'real' to me.. I know this is Greg''s book but a couple chapters from Earl's POV on Rachel and the films would have been interesting.

Earl's family... felt for the kid and was rooting for him to make his own way.

I loved the humor in this but sometimes it seemed like a bit much... I think the book would have been better balanced with less but it seemed to fit the story okay. Hmm, did sentence make sense?

Greg and Earl's films sounded semi-interesting to me, though I might have ended up not liking them haha but I loved their enthusiasm about the whole process and their determination to some how make a 'good' film.

Rachel seemed like the kind of person I would wanted to know in school... I liked her character but wish we has gotten to know her more. The whole time I wanted to give her a big hug.

'Rachel the film': Despite Greg and Earl, being hard on themselves... I thought it was a sweet gesture on their part even if it didn't turn out the way they wanted.

All in all, this was an enjoyable book for me, it was easy to fall into the story and go on the journey with Greg as he befriends Rachel. He keeps us at a distance but you can read between the lines at times and see things he probly wasn't thinking about.

Would recommend :) Does it live up to the hype? I think so.
