This is a great book if you skip over the "plot" and skim ahead to the action (like you do for erotic literature). The motivation or mechanics for producing the new crop of monsters is not explained or described. A new crop of characters are introduced throughout the book, but are so two dimensional that you don't warm to them (I had to keep checking back to recall who was Ned and who was Peter).
Godzilla never fails to satisfy, giving all the new monsters he meets a sound licking. We even meet Anguirus, who shows that he can protect his home turf.
This book should have had less politics and more Godzilla.
