Book Review of Different Children, Different Needs : The Art of Adjustable Parenting

If you have trouble relating to or understanding your child, either because of their temperment or differences in their personality style and yours, PLEASE READ THIS BOOK. I am a quiet, intropective person and my first child's personality was sweet and easy-going and we had a very close, wonderful relationship. My second child was born stong-willed and insecure and she cried all the time as a baby. As she grew up she was hard to manage and discipline and punishment or spanking didn't seem to make a difference. After reading this book, I realized the difference in our personalities was a huge issue in why the way I was relating to her wasn't working. At the time I read the book, I was so frustrated and mentally drained, that I was constantly pushing her away (she was 3). The book showed me the relational needs my daughter had and how I could change my behavior to better meet her needs. It was a miraculous change! She was still the same child with a strong will, but my adjustments in behavior and discipline better communicated love and affection to her in a way THAT MADE SENSE TO HER and made her feel more secure in our realtionship. She has now grown out of those severe behaviors (with the proper parenting and guidance from her parents) and is a sweet, loving child. She is still rather needy, but she communicates it now in just constantly expressing her love for me and telling me she misses me when I am not around ( instead of clinging and screaming and crying).

Whatever your issues with your child, please see what light this book can shed on the situation. This book does not try to substitute for what the Bible teaches and it does not provide a step by step program to a better child. Instead it is real information based on the fact that there are true differences in personality and communication styles, and everyone has something to learn.
