Both my husband and I highly recommend mysteries by Phoebe Atwood-Taylor (also used the name Alice Tilton). Wonderful screwball mysteries written back in 1930s-50s. Tightly woven plots which leave no loose ends and although provide many clues makes it hard to guess the perpetrator. The characters are so human you'll recognize aquaintances. All take place on Cape Cod and give a lot of folk history.

In this particular muder mystery Atwood-Taylor's farcical style makes the truly serious ending very poignant. Be ready for hidden panels, measles, bootlegging copys, and a wide assortment of charmingly flawed characters.
