Coulter has rewritten her very first novel in 1979--formerly called "The Autumn Countess"--to make it more Gothic in form and content, including using the first-person narration in the classic Gothic style. The young heroine in this story agrees to marry an older widowed earl, only to fall in love with his nephew.
