I think this is the best in the series. Each one has better a little better.
This one is Richard's story (Kaldar's brother and Cerise's cousin). Richard is on a mission to wipe out the slavers. It's dangerous and risky. Charlotte is a healer and on her retirement (they serve for 10 yrs and then are allowed to retire) got married and then had marriage annulled for things that really weren't her fault (they just are). They meet in the Edge, where Charlotte's but living for the last 3 years or so. Things happen. People die. Both Richard and Charlotte make choices.
The romance is quick in this one, but I thought it was believable. Both Richard and Charlotte are in their 30s, have failed relationships under their belt, and know what they want. Both are under stress and duress which allowed each other to see their true character. Sophie, George, and Jack have significant rolls. George and Jack find out what happened to their dad. My only compliant was the ending. I wanted more.
