I've enjoyed this series, but haven't loved it. I love the Bay Area, and the descriptions and street names bring back fond memories, I can see Coit Tower and the Bay, it's fun. The characters, however, must grow and develop or I'm going to have to give up on this series.
Three books/murders in a 2 month period is too much. Some time needs to pass, the characters need to be at different places in their lives, have some personal growth. At this point nothing about Brooklyn's life is interesting, as nothing has changed in 2 months.
I get the "damsal in distress" thing, but I do hope Brooklyn matures some and learns to deal better with Minka. There's material there for some juicy exchanges, I hope the author goes there, instead of leaving their exchanges at name calling and Brooklyn being afraid to respond, that's far too high schoolish for someone who can catch the eye of a foreign security expert and world traveler.
On the subject of childish, if Brooklyn has one more huge, over the top, meltdown because her amazingly sexy boyfriend has a girl come on to him, I'm going to need to quit reading. A twinge of jealousy, when one's boyfriend's butt is caressed by another woman is fine. A huge, get drunk, sob-to-your-best-friend-all-night melt down because someone said something to you about him and a relationship he may or may not have had before the two of you were, well, "the two of you" is not something I feel like reading again.
I do like the author's writing style, there's just enough clues to keep me guessing. There are some great characters, hope to see them develop. There's some great venues for future murders, Dharma, the vineyard, etc, etc. I hope this series "grows up" soon, I'd hate to have to give up on it.
