There are six stories in this book. The Guest I read in college and again a few years ago; it being the only one that I enjoyed and somewhat understood. The Adulterous Woman, somewhat reminds me of Paul Bowles The Sheltering Sky, although this womans infidelity is performed in a metaphorically manner. If you got past the revulsion of Kafkas In the Penal Colony you will find The Renegade to be a piece of cake. The Silent Men was so exhilarating that I cant even remember what it was about. The only way that I can describe The Artist At Work is worthless. And, finally, The Growing Stone had some merit, yet I cant excuse its droning on and on to get to the point.
