Intrepid Washington DC fashion reporter Lacey Smithsonian is at it again! The holidays are over and Lacey's main man, Sean Victor "Vic" Donovan, is out of town at a conference. So Lacey decides to try her (well-manicured) hand in a PI course, hoping the experience will be help in moving her off the fashion beat and into "real" news. And she's not wrong. Things really heat up when a dead body is discovered in the parking lot on the first day of class. Lacey is stunned to recognize the victim as a recently divorced socialite that she just interviewed for a fashion feature But what was the woman doing there? And who might be the killer? Suspects are plentiful, from Lacey's arch-nemesis, Damon Newhouse, to the course instructor, and pretty-much all of her classmates. Clues are varied, and include mind-control conspiracies, fashionable art exhibits and a missing custom-made Louis Vuitton make-up case. I really enjoyed this story. All fo the usual cast members are here, with return appearances by Nigel Griffin, ex-KGB spy Kepelov and even Jasmine an Lily Rose. I know these books are considered cozies, but they are not as hokey as the flood of baking/pet/bookstore mysteries that abound today. These characters are smart, savvy and altogether fun.
