Ok, I recently read the Gurnsey Literary Society book and then "Shooting the Boh" because that's what the book club chose. I must say that this book didn't do it for me in the least. The writing is more "journalistic" than actual fiction writing probably because the author is a journalist. The content doesn't "grab" you and I had no compelling interest in the characters, or in their journey. The geographical information was interesting, but truthfully the whole book seemed "fake" to me. How in the world does someone thrown out of a life raft, have no soap, no shampoo, a teeny towel but is wearing contact lenses??? Oh, and she has terrible back pain (enough to require narcotics) but she's sleeping on rocks and climbing rock walls?? Sorry... it didn't compute for me, oh and all the stuff about growing older and menopause was enough to make me get out my violin. Seriously, I wouldn't have waded through this thing if it wasn't a book club choice
