This is one of the first books I've read to get a sense of the homeschooling community. How discouraging! Every single family featured in this book bashes public education. And out of 21 families, I think 19 were homeschooling for religious reasons. Surely there are more secular families homeschooling! I was hoping for a wide variety of approaches to be featured with the focus on creativity & learning; I was disappointed to read narrow mindsets. Public education isn't all bad and homeschooling isn't all good. I'd like to hear more rounded out, complete stories which address the downsides or drawbacks to homeschooling, in addition to the benefits. Just couldn't relate to any of these families. One positive note: I did like how the author started each chapter with "Best advice, Worst advice, Favorite Quote, and Favorite Resources," which was an interesting way to sum up each family's approach.
