It's definitely easier to understand than a rambling review.
Sandy Portman who is attractive, smart, and charming lives the high life on the Upper West Side of New York City. He falls in love with the pretty, idealistic Emily, they get married but their marriage is cut short when Sandy is killed in a tragic accident.
Upon his death, Sandy meets an angel who gives him the ability to rectify his sins -- of which, there are many. He returns in the body of a dog, "Einstein", at the animal shelter where Emily works.
Emily, meanwhile, must cope with not only the loss of her husband but also the news that she is on the verge of being kicked out of their apartment.
Sandy works to right his wrongs and help Emily move on, even when it appears she might be moving on to another man. The pace of this novel is somewhat abrupt, and the characters at times overly stereotypical, yet the twisting plot and fantastical nature of the story make it an interesting tale of love.
