Dr. Sara Linton is in court testifying about the night assault victim Dani Cooper arrived at the emergency room. Dani was in serious condition after being beaten and raped, eventually succumbing to her injuries. Dani reminded Sara of herself. Sara was raped fifteen years ago and is determined to help get justice for Dani.

Tommy McAllister is on trial for Dani's rape and murder. His parents are rich doctors and former colleagues of Sara. After testifying, Sara is approached by Tommy's mother, Britt McAllister, who rants at Sara and mentions that there is a connection between Dani and Sara's rape. Now Sara, along with her fiancé Detective Will Trent and his partner Faith Mitchell, begin digging into Sara's past, trying to find the truth about that night.

I love this series. I spent the holiday weekend with my nose in this book. I couldn't put it down. Readers knew about Sara's past, but we never got the details until now. The story skips between the night of Sara's rape and its aftermath, and the new investigation into Dani's death and how it ties to Sara. Will and Faith are currently sidelined and are on desk duty, but that doesn't stop them from working this case. They may not have easy access to the department's files, but that doesn't stop them from working the case the old-fashioned way by interviewing witnesses and calling in favors.

This book had lots of twists and turns, even some shocks. It has a tough storyline that may be hard for some people. If you're a fan of dark, gritty stories, you'll love this series. Don't start with this book, go to the beginning of the series. You won't be disappointed. My rating: 5 Stars.
