Book Review of Junius and Albert's Adventures in the Confederacy: A Civil War Odyssey

A fascinating true story of two Northern reporters captured by Confederates in 1863, who then spent 16 months in southern prisons, including the infamous Libby prison in Richmond. One of the reporters is the author of a book about his experiences which I've been trying to find for years.

What makes the story even more interesting is the number of southern Unionists they encounter, who help them and others escape.

The two books they wrote after their escape were best sellers in 1865, and they were lionized in the press and toured the country making speeches about their adventure, even testifying before Congress about the terrible conditions in the Confederate prison camps.

As this is a very different book from this period of our history, it is highly recommended reading for anyone with an interest in the Civil War.
